Bicycle Guide to the Lewis & Clark Trail


The information in the book is up-to-date as of summer 2000. However, lodgings, stores, visitor's centers, attractions, and even roads need updating on a regular basis. Please email any new information to [an error occurred while processing this directive] and, after verifying it, I'll post it here.

Page 40: Camp River Dubois Interpretive Center — There is a new visitor center just south of Hartford, IL, on the east side of the Mississippi River, where the Corps of Discovery spent the winter of 1803–1804. It includes a full-size cutaway replica of the keelboat, many other exhibits, and a multimedia presentation about the expedition. More information may be found at

Page 109: Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park now charges $5 for bicycles. The North Entrance may be closed off, but the main road has a good shoulder and light traffic.

Pages 231 and 266: Between Pierre and Gettysburg new pavement makes Routes 1804 and 212 a more pleasant ride. You can now connect them on the map where it currently shows two dead-end stubs.
